Mile 152 Report
Oregon Dunes NRA, north of Threemile Creek
March 13, 2009
A nice day to walk the beach, and a good day for fishing, apparently.
Report Details
A nice day to walk the beach, and a good day for fishing, apparently. There were 9 fishermen. The beach was quite clean, due in part to the efforts of a man from Roseburg who picks up rope and floats in his ORV and takes them to his neighbor who decorates her yard with them. He had a good stack of stuff. The parking lot was dirtier than the beach, but we did see three tires and a laundry basket. Hopefully, people on Beach Clean-Up Day were able to get rid of them. I talked with the US Forest Service people in the Information Center, Reedsport, about the large amount of campers on the beach in the summer and the lack of any toilet facilities. They will bring it up with their supervisor.
Conditions
Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 1.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 11. Number of dogs: 3. Fishing: 9. Other Activities: 1 ORV2. This is the most activity I've seen on our mile, just north of Sparrow Park Road. There were 9 fishermen catching perch and Big Ben. One man, a regular from Roseburg, was picking up rope and floats in his ORV for his neighbor who decorates her yard with them. He also likes to clean the beach, bravo! The sheriff also came by and chatted with him; he didn't get out of the truck.

Very high tide and wave action and not much beach, so we were a bit uneasy, looking at the bluffs in case we needed to scamper up them.

The beach itself is beautiful and showed little signs of ATV usage except for plastic bottles and other trash.
