Mile 61(3.84 mi between the given N. and S. coordinates) is characterized by a steep, soft sand beach and is mostly paralleled by New River. The foredune has large low areas (former breaches) which are over-washed and cleaned by storms. The beach was quite clean with little manmade (e.g., 3 crab bouys, 2 crab rings, 2 doz. bottles, 3 rope balls)or natural debris (e.g., occasional bull kelp, razor clam shells, etc.). Mimimal wildlife was observed.
