Report Details

Three NPS staff went out to do a beach clean up and coast walk. It was raining very hard when we arrived and the wind was quite strong. We zipped up our rain gear and headed out. We didn't see anyone else on the beach besides one car that drove by. There were several cars in the parking lot, and we saw cars come down the Sunset Beach access road and stop before driving fully out onto the beach. We didn't notice anything that seemed out of the ordinary, besides 2 large tree logs that had washed up onto the beach fairly close to the Sunset Beach entrance. I did find some garbage that seemed left over trash from 4th of July (bits of fireworks).

Conditions

Temperature: 60 F. Cloud Cover: Rain. Wind Velocity: Strong. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 7.0 feet.

Human Activities

We saw one car driving along the beach. 3 Cars had driven out on the Sunset Beach access, but had stopped before fully getting out onto the beach and were parking their cars in the road access.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 4. Cars/trucks on beach, allowed: 1.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). There were a lot of small pieces of wood, seemingly from campfires since they had burn marks, as well as two large tree logs that had washed up in the water. Lots of smaller pieces of garbage and plastic. The main garbage that we picked up was actually sand toys. There was probably 20 different children's plastic sand toys that we picked up and threw away.
