Mile 288 Report
Bayocean Peninsula, Kincheloe Point
October 2, 2014
Beautiful early fall afternoon.
Report Details
Beautiful early fall afternoon. Very low human activity. Did see one fellow walking with a bike on the way from the beach to the dunes near the north end of the mile. Appeared as if he might be living around the area at the time. Funny part was, after he passed me, I looked back and noticed he had nothing on below the waist. Odd.Beach was very clean, with almost no debris. There were several filled SOLVE bags on mile 288 and a couple on mile 287 so perhaps that is why the area was so clean. No noticeable natural changes, no unusual birds or marine mammals, and little to report other than the beach was its usual magical self.First walked along the Bay before crossing over to northern end of beach. Did see a couple of Eared Grebes, many Western/Glaucous-winged Gulls, lots of Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons, and hundreds of Surf Scoters. Overall a refreshing and good walk in the fall.
Conditions
Temperature: 65 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 4.0 feet.

Saw no one while walking along the beach. Did see one man walking in the dunes area.

Mile 288 showed no signs of man-made disturbance, and no one was on-site during my monitoring. I was glad to see a flock of plovers flying in the foredune again!

It was an incredibly busy day for Mile 288 the day before the snowy plover nesting season began! I was glad to see DOGAMI and OPRD on-site, and appreciated OPRD's willingness to haul the debris I collected back to their dumpsters. It was also exciting to see so many plovers in the wet sand.
