Mile 288 - Bayocean Peninsula, Kincheloe Point - March 21, 2005

Report Details

Observation was at low tide, mid-afternoon. Generally very quiet and, perhaps because of recent storms, there was little debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc.) on the beach. it could have been blown into the dunes behind the beach. Overall, little or no change.

Notable Wildlife

Along the beach side saw adult and 2 juvenile bald eagles, 1 common raven, several Western gulls, and many American crows. Along the bay side noted a number of rufous hummingbirds. No shorebirds were seen along the ocean.

It was an incredibly busy day for Mile 288 the day before the snowy plover nesting season began! I was glad to see DOGAMI and OPRD on-site, and appreciated OPRD's willingness to haul the debris I collected back to their dumpsters. It was also exciting to see so many plovers in the wet sand.
