Mile 288 - Bayocean Peninsula, Kincheloe Point - August 27, 2002

Report Details

Beach was very quiet and quite windy. There was little evidence of litter or other human activity. The beach itself is changing. There is more sand in some areas and less in others. In the former, there are dune-like areas where previously it was flat. In the latter, there are new, large pools of water (at higher tides) in areas that were previously sandy.

Cars/trucks parking: 5.

Notable Wildlife

Birds noted included 6 Heerman's and 30-40 Western gulls in the surf, 3 or 4 Caspian terns and 4 brown pelicans flying over.

It was an incredibly busy day for Mile 288 the day before the snowy plover nesting season began! I was glad to see DOGAMI and OPRD on-site, and appreciated OPRD's willingness to haul the debris I collected back to their dumpsters. It was also exciting to see so many plovers in the wet sand.
