A very nice October day on the Coast. Lots of people and kids enjoying the treasure we call the beach.The access point , Cape Kiwanda Parking lot was full. Some going to the Pelican Pub but most to the beach.The new Memorial Wall put up by the Doryman's Association is a nice addition. Gives new people some background on the history of dory launching into the open Seas off the beach. Couple of new benchs nice addition. With the exception of one very old gull no wildlife noted.

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 3.7 feet.

Number of people: 50. Number of dogs: 15. Walking or running: 35. Playing in surf: 5. Playing in sand: 5. Sitting: 4. Photography: 2. Tidepooling: 2. Surfing: 15. Other Activities: setting in cars 6. Very nice day. Warm sunny. Lots of people walking on the beach. Almost no trash/litter.

Concerns

Climbing bluffs/seastacks

Apparent violations: 2 young people behind fenced closed.

Cars/trucks parking: 30. RVs/Buses parking: 2. Cars/trucks on beach, allowed: 6.

Notable Wildlife

No mammals. Very few bird, not even Califoria Gulls. Some large bulb kelp that was fresh. No crab castings.

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 1. One very old gull. Been on the beach for weeks. Nothing unusual.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass. some eel grass.

Man-made Modifications

Dune modification/removal. At access point Dolry Ramp just Picked up for winter. No long term effect.

One day after a King Tide Nice sunny day at the beach, 47 degrees and calm winds. Grass that was growing between the dunes and high zone completely gone. Normal human activities at the beach . No beached birds or mammals found.

Wonderful sunny day 65. degrees. New construction in the State parking lot at the north end of the mile. Found 1 beached (dead) bird; a Brown Pelican in the high bare zone, middle of the Mile.
