Report Details

Really a great day!  Lots of people, LITTLE TRASH! Only saw 3 instances of litter on the beach for 246 people on a Holiday!  The "two surf zones, from the last couple of months seem to be absent now along the beach (no inland false rivers as in the past), everything pretty much flatening out as for as sand deposition but still can observe two wrack zones. Foredunes, etc. seemed smooth, people are observant of not running up and down the foredunes along the mile.  Everything is looking good.I spent a majority of my time, with a helper, finding Beached Birds, a total of 9. Reported for COASST. 1 Rhinoceros Auklet, 5 Common Murres and 3 Brant's Cormorants. Received a note from COASST that there may be a high amount due to breeding season being over, so it seems to be a normal event.

Wow what a change from last month! State Parking lot is closed for a couple of months while construction on the new parking lot and restroom continues. The tree ( object I show as a measure of sand deposition ) is really getting uncovered! Survey also for COASST, no beached birds or mammals found. The beach access point at the north end of Bob Straub State Park is still unusable for vehicles, due to a massive erosion event and 5 foot sharp edges to the beach.
