Mile 257 Report
Porter Point, Nestucca River
September 23, 2018
This beach (our favorite) remains in wonderful shape.
Report Details
This beach (our favorite) remains in wonderful shape. The beach is wonderfully clean. We have witnessed several families picking up trash and on this walk, we found only one trash item, a piece of broken glass (the top portion of a bottle) which would have seriously cut someone who stepped on it. NO other trash!! Usefully, the state has provided a trash pickup site beside the parking lot. The major change in recent months is that the tides are washing away the sand of the lower beach, leaving a 4 to 5 foot bank to the upper beach which sees only occasional water flow. This cutting away has continued for the last four months. Further north, the Nestucca River has swung slightly to the north, leaving the south bank of the river exposed and accessible. This time, no birds other than gulls and the only mammal was a seal, briefly glimpsed in the surf. No dead animals on the beach.
Conditions
Temperature: 68 F. Tide Level: 7.3 feet.
