Mile 257 Report
Porter Point, Nestucca River
July 11, 2015
Lovely quiet day on the beach.
Report Details
Lovely quiet day on the beach. New contour with a steep drop off at about the high tide line of 5.2. No signs of significant erosion but one large rock fall from the cliff. Few people on the beach but yet another one who was picking up trash. Little trash (left) and no Styrofoam, many new logs at highest tide line and very many small pieces of wood at recent high tide. Three dead birds, two gulls and one other, too bedraggled to identify. One large yellowish-brownish-orangish bird's egg in the tide edge. One very nice Kelp Crab shell.Yet another piece of a (cool) layer of sandstone breaking up off-shore, clearly showing the see bottom on to which the sand settled and the top where the water currents have shaped it. The layer itself is only a few inches thick and the pieces (which I have been collecting) make a neat story of 'life on the bottom'. I'm trying to send photos of the egg from my cell phone but it is not working so will send later.
