Mile 245 - Roads End Beach, Wayside, Logan Creek - December 25, 2017

Stunning afternoon on this stretch of beach, perfect conditions for walking and enjoying the area. Very little debris in the wrack line however, hundreds of a never before seen invertebrate. The near-transparent finger shaped creature varied in size from 3/8 inch in width and 2 inches long to an inch in width and 8 inches long. Query answered identifiying these creatures as pyrosomes.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Unusual concentration. Hundreds, perhaps a thousand, of various sized pyrosomes. Two jelly fish.

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass. False sea palm.

Natural Changes

Landslides/major boulder falls, Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Visible retreat of solid bluff.

Contacted Philip Johnson regarding identification of the invertibrate. Collected a sampling should MHSC or the Aquarium request one.
