Less tourist traffic.
Report Details
Less tourist traffic. With high winds and waves (seasonal), beach looked more rugged and rocky than in last reports.
Conditions
Temperature: 65 F. Wind Velocity: Strong. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 3.5 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 13. Number of dogs: 5. Walking or running: 9. Other Activities: 1 - kite flying.

Notable Wildlife
Turkey Vulture, Gulls, Beach Hopper (see pic). Deer tracks.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 1. Common Murre (see pic)
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. sea lion carcass (see pics)
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea). Lots of bull kelp in large "bundles." (see north/south pics) Most of the litter, as usual, was along the south end with parking area access. Snail egg cases (see pic). Shell/oyster? (see pics)
Natural Changes
Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Erosion of vegetated foredune. North end of beach looked transformed - less sand with bedrock exposed, more rocky, rugged. 2 old trees exposed from erosion. (see pics)

After king tides and heavy surf, most of the usual driftwood was up nearer the bank along with minimal bull kelp.

The beach mile varied quite a bit - with the south (less traveled) section with darkened sands and clear of most debris while the north end, with more visitors, was covered in stones with more small debris (esp.

Just wanted to say there have been a lot of brown pelicans this season, more than I've ever seen, and I'm wondering if they will stay for the winter?
