After king tides and heavy surf, most of the usual driftwood was up nearer the bank along with minimal bull kelp. The south end of the beach was covered almost entirely with loose stone; mid-beach are mostly sand; north end of beach was exposed bedrock.

Total dead birds: 7. 6 auklets, 1 cormorant
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. Encountered seal just north of 40a. Not moving much - first assumed as dead harbor seal. No visible injuries. Reported stranding including pic - was told it was a young elephant seal that was molting. See pic.
Driftline Content
Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea). Less litter/debris than usual. Not much sea vegetation or shells/casings

The beach mile varied quite a bit - with the south (less traveled) section with darkened sands and clear of most debris while the north end, with more visitors, was covered in stones with more small debris (esp.

Just wanted to say there have been a lot of brown pelicans this season, more than I've ever seen, and I'm wondering if they will stay for the winter?
