Mile 238 Report
Salishan Spit, North Lagoon, Siletz Bay
December 11, 2020
Beware of high tides and sneaker waves.
Report Details
Beware of high tides and sneaker waves. Today the beach was completely wind-swept and smoothed over by recent wave action. It was almost completely clear south of house #333 (beach access there) but covered with logs north of 333 all the way to the north end of Mile 238. Waves are coming all the way in to the rock line.
Conditions
Temperature: 43 F. Cloud Cover: Rain. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light.
Human Activities
No one was on the beach this morning due to heavy rain and cold temperature
Driftline Content
Wood pieces.
Man-made Modifications
New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Rip-rap project at southern end of Mile 238 is either completed or on hold due to bad weather. Equipment was not evident and stockpile of boulders in nearby parking lot is depleted. There is still a pile of boulders near beach access at Beach Grass Lane.
Natural Changes
Several ridges/bluffs have formed in various locations on the beach making for some difficult access. Most of the unmarked beach accesses are usable but access #50A is still closed and dangerous.
