New Years Day was beautiful, the beach was clean for the most part because waves have been reaching man-made riprap walls installed at the base of the cliffs from Gleneden Beach State Park south to just south of Sea and Sand RV Park.

New Years Day was beautiful, the beach was clean for the most part because waves have been reaching man-made riprap walls installed at the base of the cliffs from Gleneden Beach State Park south to just south of Sea and Sand RV Park.One pile of net and debris is deposited at 44°52'08.4"N 124°02'28.8"WSand is disappearing at a dramatic rate, exposing rock outcroppings.

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: E. Tide Level: 0.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 60. Number of dogs: 5. Walking or running: 54. Playing in sand: 6. Folks walking on beach until Ducks game started, when nearly everyone disappeared!
Beached Birds
The waves are now reaching riprap barriers that were installed along the cliff fronts over the past years. This wave action cleared out all of the dead birds. The mile north of this one has abundant dead baby birds.
Driftline Content
Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). There is one pile of used nets and debris at 44°52'08.4"N 124°02'28.8"W
Man-made Modifications
New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Riprap walls have been installed over the past two years from Gleneden Beach State Park to just past Sea And Sand RV Park

Riprap walls have been installed over the past two years from Gleneden Beach State Park to just past Sea And Sand RV Park. Waves are now routinely reaching these man-made walls.Sand has disappeared from the beach in great quantities, exposing rock outcroppings below.

Throughout mile 235 and into 234, there were 13 dead Cassin's Auklets washed up on the beach, many just at tide line, 1 dead seabird, (long neck and white belly - see photo), and one dead sea lion. Much foam and bull kelp on shore.

A great day along Mile 235 on the Oregon Coast, especially for rock and shell hunters taking advantage of low tide.

Many masses of bull kelp washed up on the beach.

Small fireworks debris along the entire route but one large cache of debris from fireworks on the Coronado Shores beach weighed approx 40 pounds.
