Mile 227 Report
Cape Foulweather, Rocky Creek
February 21, 2019
It was a cold February morning with little animal and human activity.
Report Details
It was a cold February morning with little animal and human activity. Access is limited to observation well back from the surf in most spots and the housing complex limits observation of around 40% of mile 227. In this initial visit there was no attempt to gain legal access through private property. Vegetation appeared healthy, trails to shore were few and well used. Human impact was light, in my opinion, with very little litter found. My main concern is a recently erected tree stand in a clump of trees and the trail cut through the brush. I need to confirm land ownership where the tree stand and fire rings are found. Attachments: Map and Photos
Conditions
Temperature: 32 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 1.2 feet.
Human Activities
Other Activities: Fishing boat 1/2 mile off shore moving S to N.. There is moderate amount of human impact in accessible areas. There are a few well established trails but little evidence of people venturing off the trails. Construction of the tree stand appears to in progress. No evidence of recent camping.
Concerns
Notable Wildlife
Only a few Gulls few by off shore. Nothing seen on or near shore (which is all cliff or steep rocky slope).
Driftline Content
No driftline to observe. I did not see anything unusual where debris would accumulate, pushed in against the rocks by tide/wave action. Just some small driftwood and foam.
New Development
None observed. First visit. Took photos for later reference.
Natural Changes
There is some slumping at the interface of rocks and vegetation. It appears natural and not human induced, although in the few spots where it is apparent people are walking close to this interface there may be accelerated slumping. I took some photos of these spots for future reference.
