Beautiful evening, lots of beach-goers taking advantage of the nice weather. Jump-off Joe bluffs seemed to have stabilized after last quarter's major erosion. Unidentified substance in driftline extended over approximately quarter mile

Temperature: 57 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 3.9 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 64. Number of dogs: 15. Walking or running: 37. Playing in surf: 7. Playing in sand: 13. Sitting: 7. Tracks of at least one ATV were visible - Tracks were non-directional at times, so possibly not an "official" vehicle, but hard to tell for sure.

Lack of V. velella this year! There were some small ones in early spring, but nothing since

Total dead birds: 1. Gull
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Small rocks, Styrofoam, Wood pieces. Gooey substance in upper driftline, no strong odor. Does not seem like decaying plants/animals (e.g., velellas).
Natural Changes
No dramatic changes, but definitely chronic erosion

Tentative ID of a pacific ray on the beach lying in run off stream that, according to linked Google map segment, that is located a little north of NW 20th in Newport, OR.

A large swath of the bluff is well vegetated with shore pines, willow and native shrubs like silverweed, and black twinberry.
