Mile 211 Report
Lost Creek Wayside north, Holiday Beach south
September 17, 2017
Very few people on the beach on the cloudy Sunday afternoon I was walking mile 211.
Report Details
Very few people on the beach on the cloudy Sunday afternoon I was walking mile 211. A few areas of mud and standing water had appeared since my last report. Rocks, broken shells, drift wood, kelp, and a few cut flowers were all I found in the high tide line.
Conditions
Temperature: 58 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 6.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 4. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 4. Tire tracks visible on beach, cars/trucks rather than ATVs, but I don't know if they were allowed or prohibited.
Concerns
Litter
Apparent violations: Just two candy wrappers. Minimal litter..Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Just gulls and crows
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). Oddly, I found three cut flowers in tide line, seemingly roses.
New Development
Nothing beyond what I have reported previously; some rip rap on holiday beach, which has been there at least a year; crane on shore, reported previously, not moving or lifting anything at time of my observation.
Natural Changes
Landslides/major boulder falls. Beach has developed several areas of bad drainage, standing water. This was true of mile 211 last winter, but during spring and summer beach changed so that slope from cliff to water was continuous and no areas of mud or standing water remained. Now appears to be returning to pattern of last winter.
Actions & Comments
I carried back to Lost Creek State Park all the litter I found.

I tried to pick up and carry back to trash collection area all plastic pieces I found larger than 1 square inch, but for every piece I picked up there were at least 100 smaller pieces, a great increase over the amount of plastic just a few years ago.
