Mile 193 - Yachats Ocean Road Wayside, Yachats SP - June 5, 2019

It was a cloudy day. Not many people out mid-week and mid-afternoon. By and large there have been no significant changes south of the Yachats River on the beach next to Yachats Ocean Road. However, the stairs and railing at marker 77 had to be replaced a couple of months ago because of significant wave damage. North of the river, new asphalt is being laid down on the west side of Ocean View drive; no repair of guard rails yet. Apparently the road will remain where it is, and no bluff/shoreline reinforcement is anticipated, making the whole exercise seem futile. Also at end of mile by 7th street, from the beach one can see on bluff a sign indicating "restoration in progress," presumably to prevent further human caused damage to the bluff below the house above.

New Development

1) on bluff below 7th street and Ocean View Drive, there is now a sign stating "area closed for restoration." 2) There are heavy trucks laying down new asphalt on the ocean side of Ocean View Drive. So far no repair to guard rails. Seems like a losing battle against the ocean. No reinforcement of the bluff or indications that road will be moved eastward.
