Mile 181 Report
Carl G. Washburne SP, Blowout Creek
May 24, 2023
I saw fewer cars than usual in the parking lot at Carl Washburne beach.
Report Details
I saw fewer cars than usual in the parking lot at Carl Washburne beach. I've noticed warmer weather and weekends bring more people to enjoy the beach. Mile 181 normally has very little man made trash and today was also free of litter. The sand was smooth, flat and firm. There wasn't much of a obvious tide line to be observed partly because of evening high tides had pushed debris very high up away from the water. I didn't see any feathers on the beach compared to other visits. There were no RVs in the parking lot.

Actions & Comments
The sand is slowly returning at mile 181. Some rocks still remain, but no dunes are visible. Wood from trees and logs are present on the beach, especially at the east side where the high tides push them to the higher edge of of the beach. The waves were small and the sand stretched about 1/4 mile from the water to the entrance to the beach.

During a minus tide I noticed the sand was soaked with puddles and with wet logs scattered everywhere. There were places where hundreds of Velella jellyfish were observed on the sand.
