Report Details

During a minus tide I noticed the sand was soaked with puddles and with wet logs scattered everywhere. The weather service had predicted sneaker waves and it appeared they had occurred recently. Usually the sand would be dry at the highest sections of the beach. There were places where hundreds of Velella jellyfish were observed on the sand. Most of these were dried out, some were apparently still alive.

Mile 181

Carl G. Washburne SP, Blowout Creek

June 14, 2024

I noticed 7 cars in the parking area in the Carl Washburne day use location. The high tides were coming all the way up the beach. The beach was clean with no litter observed. The sand was very flat with no sand dunes. The waves were about 3-5 feet I noticed a lack of kelp and seagrass on the beach.
