A nice quiet wind-free afternoon to stroll Heceta Beach after the summer crowds have dispersed. A recently deceased yearling sea lion is on the beach about halfway between the jetty and Driftwood Shores Resort. No obvious trauma beyond scavenger recycling. The mile is coated with white octopus(?) egg clusters, apparently ripped free from their seabed attachment by the recent high surf on Tuesday. Each individual egg is about 1-2" in length. In spite of the recent crowds of visitors, the beach is surprisingly clean of man-made debris.

Huge stranding of brownish-red "Pacific Sea Nettle" (Chrysaora fuscescens) and Moon (Aurelia labiata) jellies all along Mile 171 and Mile 172 today.
