Report Details

The beach was pretty much as expected for winter storm activity. Most of the debris was high on the beach with little in the way of algae, kelp or shells present in the surf line. About 40 gulls of various species, an immature Bald Eagle, several pelicans and numerous shorebirds were in the area. About 24 diving ducks including Bufflehead on small marsh north of Tenmile Creek. Three Trumpter Swans, 4 Mallards and about 40 Scaup and numerous shorebirds on Tenmile lagoon. Low human impact (0).

Temperature: 28 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NE. Tide Level: 4.0 feet.

Human Activities

Two sets of human footprints were observed. No vehicle tracks were present in the closed area.

Concerns

Apparent violations: none.

Notable Wildlife

Approximately 40 gulls of various species were observed near the surf line. An immature Bald Eagle, several pelicans and numerous shore birds were also in the area. A small marsh north of the creek held about two dozen diving ducks, including Buffleheads. The Tenmile lagoon held three Trumpter Swans, Mour mallards, about 40 Scaup and numerous shorebirds. Two sets of dog tracks were found.

Actions & Comments

Ropes and signs were no longer present in the Snowy Plover nesting area. The beach near the outlet of Tenmile Ck. was recently overtopped and swept clean of debris. The man-made gaps in the seawall were still open and evidence for water flow through the same was obvious.There were no signs of illegal entry or human activity, other than two sets of footprints.

This vehicle prohibited mile was without tire tracks, and the only sign of humans was four sets of footprints, three barefoot, at the far north end of the mile.
