Mile 220 Report
Yaquina Head north, Schooner Creek south
February 15, 2022
It was a quiet day on the beach.
Report Details
It was a quiet day on the beach. The person and car at NW 68th arrived about 8:30AM, about the time I was almost done walking the beach.Rather than have a bunch of photos of cliffs eroding under houses, or pipes eroding from cliff I decided to concentrate on TWO THINGS.First, I found several floats and WDFW tag attached by plastic rope on the beach near NW 68th. I placed them at the Marine Debris collection spot.Second, I think there is armoring of the houses just north of Schooner Creek/NW 68th. Picture of machine and tracks down to the beach enclosed.
Conditions
Temperature: 45 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 6.2 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 1. Walking or running: 1. 1 regular car at paved NW 68th and a Komatsu heavy machine at unpaved NW 68th lot
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Saw about 50-75 birds. It isn't nesting season yet.
Driftline Content
Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). The beach had a few crab moltings. There was virtually no micro plastic, but I did find on the beach near NW 68th access several floats from fishing debris.
Man-made Modifications
New riprap or shoreline protection structures. There is a Komatsu and tracks down to the beach. I am guessing that the houses north of Schooner Creek/NW 68th Street are armoring.
Natural Changes
It is winter--so some erosion is present.
