Brown Pelicans apparently in a stopping off place to feed-up before continuing migration. Huge numbers of birds- 145. Nine Mergansers flying north. A flock of Sanderlings running along surfline. Three dead immature gulls. Unlawful fires continue on this mile. 18 lbs. of trash removed (beach clean-up was just over a month ago). China Creek runs only about 200 yards north (as compared to last quarter's report). A Snowy Plover warning sign is nearly covered by sand line. Very little in driftline except some small rocks and a few wood pieces. Moderate human impact (8)- walking with 3 dogs.

Number of people: 8. Number of dogs: 3. Walking or running: 8. Other Activities: appeared one adult male practicing rock climbing. 5 people, adults and children, with 3 dogs off-leash -- tossing ball. Used firepit "hidden" on south side of tall rock - bundled newspapers stashed behind rock (planning to return?). We picked up approx. 18 lbs. of litter/garbage!

Notable Wildlife
145 Br. Pelicans, juveniles and adults, in pool formed off China Creek - bathing, frolicking (observed Oct. 31). Pelicans coming in from Haystack Rock - fishing, soaring, bathing. 9 Mergansers flying north; 40-50 Sanderlings running north in surf; large flock of shorebirds (approx. 80) flying north (didn't get an ID on them -- small and fast).

Total dead birds: 3. Immature gulls (partially decayed)

Small rocks, Wood pieces. very little along driftline
