Mile 98 Report
Bandon State Park, China Creek
June 7, 2009
Our main concern for mile 98 is vehicle entry where not permitted.
Report Details
Our main concern for mile 98 is vehicle entry where not permitted. "Cookies" observed, and single-track (motorcycle?) vehicle. Appears entry is from south of China Creek where it is posted no entry. Vehicle tracks follow and cross creek. Although fresh horse tracks, no manure observed (which is rare!). All in all, this mile did not appear to be too human-impacted: two people seen. Very little litter, debris and only 2 cig butts! Decaying mammal (seal) still rotting away (mostly sand covered, but bones protruding up thru sand -- we first observed 5/3/09). We have taken no actions, but will verify the motor vehicle rules. Live birds included Brown Pelicans, Song Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, Barn Swallows, Double-crested cormorants and Snowy Plover. Dead birds were an American Crow, a gull and possibly a Western Grebe. Animal casings and wood pieces in driftline.
