I covered the miles both North and South of Harris Creek and was pleasantly surprised at the health of the sea star population.

Conditions

Temperature: 61 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: -1.5 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 15. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 6. Playing in surf: 3. Tidepooling: 6. Not as many folks as I expected on such a low tide opportunity, especially considering the generally good weather and reasonable time of low tide.

Apparent violations: None.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 10.

Notable Wildlife

Ochre Sea Stars in significant numbers. No evidence of seas star wasting disease.

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Small rocks, Wood pieces.

Found today 10-12’ decomposing body of a sea lion washed up on the rocks at the cove at the most northern point of mile 8 appears to have been dead for some time and is very fragrant Turkey vulture activity has been high here for the last several days and I guess I discovered why!
