Plesant warm day on the beach, some areas of beach were rocky but in general large amounts of sand remain despite the winter storms.

Plesant warm day on the beach, some areas of beach were rocky but in general large amounts of sand remain despite the winter storms. Signs of minor slumping of the bottom 20 feet of the bluff. Not a lot of wild life in evidence, tidepools largely barren except for a few hermit crabs, saw a few gulls but did see a river otter leaving the surf to explore the driftwood line. Not a lot of debris in evidence but found a partially full, sealed 55 gallon plastic drum; notifying National Response Center of location

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 0.6 feet.
Human Activities
Hiked only the northern 1/3 of the mile, access here is only by private stairs, so no cars, etc can reach beach
Notable Wildlife
Saw a (river) otter (observation point is approx 5 mi north of Rogue River mouth) leave surf line and cross approx 50 yards of sand to explore the driftwood line for a monent and than return; only one set of tracks in the 1/3 mile to not frequent occurance

Seaweeds and seagrass, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Small rocks, Wood pieces.
Natural Changes
visible tear lines and signs of slumping on bluff front up to 20+ feet above high water mark
Actions & Comments
Found a plastic 55 gallon barrel approx 1/2 full of unknown fluid; attemping to contact National Response Center for their action

The high tide and large swell last week has eroded the cliff face somewhat.

Little activity: 5 people, 1 dog, 2 Black Oystercatchers.

Some small landslides after over 10" of rainOcean is very muddy from the outflow of silt from the Rouge River.
