A morning walk on mile 327 revealed 3 species of kelp: chain bladder kelp, bull kelp, and rockweed, and some interesting invertebrates: purple mahogany clam (Nuttallia) and pelagic gooseneck barnacles attached to a plastic soap pump bottle. I collected two SOLV bags of trash with a higher concentration of plastic debris on the south 0.5 mile from the Del Rey beach entrance. Many piles of dog poop and two abandoned bags full of dog poop found along the high tide line. Plastic debris included a Croc shoe, water bottle, shot-gun shell from waterfowl hunting, large styrofoam chunks, and one lighter. Five people surf fishing, but overall little human presence and a quiet morning on the beach.

Driftline Content

Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). Observed ocean-based debris including hard plastic covered with barnacles, a small float, colorful ropes, and plastic shot-gun shells. Land-based debris included single-use plastic wrappers from food and beverages, aluminum cans, plastic water bottles, and large chunks of styrofoam.
