Report Details
At 1:30am, our NOAA radio announced a tsunami watch for the Oregon coast, predicting a possible tsunami at 5:10am in our area. We immediately started packing up necessities for an extended stay away from our house (which is 43 ft above sea level thus definitely in the inundation zone.) What we want to highlight is this: there are 6 houses near ours, all within the inundation zone. None of them turned on lights, meaning that they did not know about the potential tsunami. If the "tsunami watch" had changed to "tsunami warning", hopefully they would receive automated emergency calls, however they would not have as much time to respond as we did. We were dismayed that so few people had NOAA radios, an inexpensive lifesaving communication method. Several of these houses are short-term rentals; those visitors would be disadvantaged in a real emergency. At 4:45am, the all-clear sounded. We went back to bed.
Conditions
Temperature: 40 F. Cloud Cover: Rain. Wind Velocity: Strong. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 8.3 feet.

We walked the mile on a clear, chilly afternoon. We picked up trash--one full bag. We found a little eel, the same color as brown rockweed! We saw sea foam blowing on the sand. We found a small skull bone. We found a scientific measuring device planted in the cobble with a float saying that it was the property of OSU.
