Mile 295 Report
Nedonna Beach
May 3, 2020
Beach looks like it was swept clean by the tides.
Report Details
Beach looks like it was swept clean by the tides. Left deposits of seaweed and bits of wood and stuff high up on near dunes. Scattered razor clam and blue muscle shells, crab body shells of small crabs, broken sand dollars. Small bits of wood from trees, black and brown stones. I see no trash washed up. 15 or so people and several dogs out enjoying the sunshine on a Sunday, which was quite busy for during COVID-19 shelter-at-home times. A short rain shower chased most of them away.
Conditions
Temperature: 60 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: S.
Human Activities
Number of people: 15. Number of dogs: 5. Walking or running: 10. Playing in sand: 3. Sitting: 2. I saw about 15 people and several dogs. Started the walk on the south end of our mile. That’s quite a lot of people actually, but it is Sunday and it’s been rainy lately so people are happy to get out into the sunny beach during these COVID-19 shelter in place times.
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Only saw one seagull and one bald eagle, flying over the beach and sea. .
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces. Beach looks like it was swept clean by the tides. Left deposits of seaweed and bits of wood and stuff high up on The beach. Some razor clam and blue muscle shells, crab body shells of small crabs, sand dollar broken pieces. Small bits of wood trees. Black and brown stones. I see no trash washed up.
New Development
This is my first report, but I have visited this beach many times over the past few months and it looks pretty much the same as it has. There is a build up of large logs of driftwood up near the dunes from the King tides this winter.
