Report Details
9/30/22 5:15 PM, high tide was about 3:30 PM. A beautiful sunny day, a little windy from the northwest. I started walking north from the south end of the mile. Lots of seagulls were sitting on the beach and flying by. Quite a lot of people and dogs on the beach this evening. The rack line was pretty high on the beach and contained mostly vegetation, kelp, see lettuces etc. Also broken shells, occasional bodies of little creatures or parts thereof, and one or two pieces of trash. Close to the shore are jellyfish parts. The big driftwood fort up by the jetty has been remodeled since I was heere two days ago. Several other forts have acquired new handwritten 'signage.'The biggest discovery of this visit: a cormorant sat on a rock on the jetty, possibly it was ill because it’s not moving away from that spot, even when I took photos from a couple of different angles. And a few minutes later when I turned to walk back to the south end of my mile, the cormorant was still there.I also did the bioblitz on my walk today, looking for live plants and animals preferably, but finding some dead ones worth mentioning as well. There was not a lot of species to draw on in the wrack line and up by the dunes but it was mostly just grasses.
Conditions
Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: NW.
Human Activities
Number of people: 36. Number of dogs: 7. Walking or running: 23. Playing in sand: 9. Other Activities: four people were flying kites.
Notable Wildlife
Lots of seagulls were sitting on the beach and flying by. A double-crested cormorant was sitting on a rock on the south jetty. It appeared to be ill because did not move away from that spot, even when I took photos from a couple of different angles and walked around it. A few minutes later it was still there. It must have been sick. Poor thing.
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Land-based debris (picnics, etc.). The rack line is pretty high on the beach and contains mostly vegetation, kelp, see lettuces etc. Also broken shells, occasional bodies of little creatures or parts thereof, and one or two pieces of trash. Close to the shore or a jellyfish parts.
Natural Changes
Nothing new. Steep bluff edges from last winter's king tides have worn down quite a bit, and beach access thru dues is gradual and easy.

It was a gorgeous sunny but quite cold afternoon, with a brisk wind from the northeast blowing sand toward the surf across a wide low-tide beach.
