Report Details

It was a bonus weather day at Neskowin Beach to observe the Dec 21 King Tide...... partly cloudy, calm conditions, 42 deg F.  Only two cars in the parking lot.  The tide (8.1)  was high @ 10:30a.The walkway near the cafe was taped off with yellow caution tape.  Tide was all the way in with no access to the beach. There was tidal flow up into the creek in front of the condos but not significant.  Mostly the flow was caused by incoming wave action.  Upon closer inspection there was a low flow out of the creek toward the ocean.  We walked out on Carlton Ave and observed breakers lapping up to the riprap.  Proposal Rock was completely surrounded with water and waves.  Only 6 people were in the area, some were taking photos.  We saw one dog walker with their dog.  There was no opportunity to observe any rack lines other than what we saw up in the rocks. This was mostly kelp, wood pieces and seaweed.  There was minimal trash observed in the rack lines and in the parking lot. We drove north along the golf course observing flooded conditions and lots of ducks swimming around. There was an obvious rack line on the greens and fairways consisting mostly of general windblown debris.  We drove to the intersection of Breakers Blvd and Corvallis Ave,  parked and walked out to the beach. It was obvious that waves had overtopped the rocks and had washed down the sandy path but there was minimal erosion.  This overtopping probably took place during DEC 16-17 storm as the area was not wet with any recent tidal condition of the day.Upon departure we saw a new frame house being built along Breakers Blvd.  One or two houses on the land side of Breakers Blvd had sandbags in front of the driveways.

Conditions

Temperature: 42 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SE. Tide Level: 8.1 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 6. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 3. Photography: 3. Human activity was minimal due to King tide level. Almost zero beach exposed for walking plus threat of sneaker waves may have kept folks away. Pathway near cafe was taped off and closed.

Concerns

Apparent violations: none observed.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 2.

Notable Wildlife

Western gulls, crows, and other birds in the area..... nothing notable.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Wood pieces. rack lines were high up on the rocks, mostly seaweed , wood pieces, and kelp due to high winds and storm on Sunday - Monday DEC 16, 17 nothing abnormal in the rack

New Development

Stunningly beautiful today ~ yesterday, too - but today the clouds were dancing with one another ~ storm clouds with white puffy and promises of blue sky off and on.
