Report Details
There are two major bluff slides, each of which brought down tons of earth, sand, and pine trees either onto the beach or onto riprap at the foot of the bluff. Having walked this stretch of beach for years, these are the two largest slides I've seen on this stretch of beach bluff. One is 150 yards north of the Olivia Beach steps, the other is below the Bard Loop. The slides appear to have started near the top of the mid-section of the bluff, not at the summit of the bluff. There are also minor slides, and bluff erosion caused by waves lapping around rip-rap. There has been some destruction of the rip rock -- rocks washed onto the beach or rocks escaping their wire retainers (such as at the Olivia Beach steps). Also, much, much sand washed off the beach by the big waves. Lots of agate beds exposed, as well as bedrock.
