Mile 222 Report
Moolack Beach N, Coal Creek, S of Wade Creek
January 8, 2022
This is my first CoastWatch report, and I hadn't seen the standard report form prior to my visit to mile 222, so I expect this report to be lacking compared to future ones.
Report Details
This is my first CoastWatch report, and I hadn't seen the standard report form prior to my visit to mile 222, so I expect this report to be lacking compared to future ones. I only walked the northern 1/2 mile, as the relatively high tide made it not safe to walk a narrowed beach/rock area. Generally speaking, the beach is fairly drastically different than 3 months ago, as there is much more exposed rock, and Wade Creek is larger and shifted south about 10-20 feet. No marine life seen, including no gulls, and no tide pool life. Moderate amount of trash, most noticeably styrofoam and plastic bottles (16 of the latter); found a couple interesting examples of man-made debris: boat rope/floats based out of the central California valley, and a plastic water bottle from China, bottled in 2018.
Conditions
Temperature: 39 F. Tide Level: 4.5 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 2.
Vehicles
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Wood pieces, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.).

A windy day without much to report; just the usual off-leash dogs (no shorebirds present to potentially be flushed) and trash.

The beach fire close to vegetation, and somewhat close to access point was the main unusual concern to report, otherwise just the usual concern of trash.

Notable highlights: relatively small landslide at the mile's middle parking lot; large piece of shipping debris; large tree debris (unusual to see large natural or unnatural debris at this mile; the usual trash (though as usual, less than seen at miles 223 and 224 to the north); a bald eagle and barn swallows!
