The recent heavy weather and surf had removed much sand from the beach and scattered rock from the bluff-base burn over the mid beach.

The recent heavy weather and surf had removed much sand from the beach and scattered rock from the bluff-base burn over the mid beach. I did not see new gravel beds. The gray whale that is buried at the dune grass line at the south end of survey mile 209 remains covered.

Temperature: 45 F. Cloud Cover: Rain. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 4.0 feet.

Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 5. Four western grebes, one murre
Stranded Marine Mammals
Earlier in the quarter there were two long-dead California sea lions on the beach, which I reported to the marine mammal group.
Driftline Content
There was little human-derived drift line debris. Naturally-derived material was lminimal.
Man-made Modifications
I observed a gradient of 1 foot of drop for 27 feet for the high beach at Wandemere. The drop was similar near the north end.
Actions & Comments
There was one Douglas fir pole of the type that came on the beach in quanty in the spring.
