Report Details

A pleasant afternoon on the mile. Very clean beach, as is usual here when I visit, with a few stones and the aforementioned little colorless strands in the drift line. There were 17 visitors and 5 dogs. Quite a bit of sand has come off the beach, and chunks of the bluff have been coming down; only one spot looked freshly fallen. At the other sites the clumps had been washed over enough by the waves that they had that melted look. Sorry not to provide photos. Sadly, this will be my last report on Mile 197, at least in the winter months. I'm no longer comfortable navigating the boulders at the bottoms of the campground stairs when the sand has been scoured off them. I'm hoping to pick up another mile that's more easily accessible for me.

Colorless short strands of something... I've seen them before, and as I remember they were the breathing tubes of a tiny ocean creature; can't remember what they are now.
