Mile 190 Report
Captain Cook Pt, Cooks Chasm, Cape Perpetua SRA, Cape Cr
April 12, 2016
The rock walls appear to have been scoured of small blue mussels and the only sea star noted was in a depression at the top of a rock at the western edge of the beach, which also appeared to be part of a healthy community with anemone.
Report Details
The rock walls appear to have been scoured of small blue mussels and the only sea star noted was in a depression at the top of a rock at the western edge of the beach, which also appeared to be part of a healthy community with anemone. A discussion with Fawn and Rangers at Cape Perpetua Visitor center said this is a result of strong storms during the winter. Cape Cove beach was surprisingly clean of trash, even among the higher rocks where trash is easily trapped. A good number of people were walking the trails and exploring the rocks on a cloudy, but pleasant day.

2 oystercatchers noted on Cape Cove beach
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 1. small black, quite disintegrated, little remaining besides feathers and a few bones
Driftline Content

Natural Changes
erosion noted but small
Actions & Comments
as in previous report, noted that Cape Cove creek has moved a bit to the north. Logs moved by the ocean are now higher in the cove, which makes it easier to get down to the sand. The lower step to the beach has been washed away, still no issue to get to the beach. There was surprisingly little trash on the beach.
