Report Details

We saw very little wildife activity, only a few small shorebirds and the one eagle. There were extremely few items of any kind washed ashore, they had probably already been buried under the influx of sand that has washed ashore.

Conditions

Temperature: 60 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 0.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 1. Other Activities: Driving USFS truck. A USFS truck drove south down the beach to the Snowy Plover restriction area near the mouth of Tahkenitch Creek, stayed briefy and then drove back up the beach to the north.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 2.

Notable Wildlife

We saw one juvenile Bald Eagle standing near the surf line. Once it spotted us it flew off. We also saw 4 sea stars in the wet sand just above the wave wash line during low tide.

Driftline Content

Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Shells, Wood pieces. Unusual brownish-green dried up substance along the very highest dritline, very distinct

Natural Changes

Lots of sand deposited on beach, in many places almost contiguous with the natural slope of the foredune.

Actions & Comments

Absolutely nothing unusual along my mile. It is relatively remote and contiguous to Forest Service land, so there is rarely evidence of human impact. Not counting the roped off restricted area for Snowy Plover nesting protection on the entire sand spit at the mouth of Tahkenitch Creek.
