Mile 121 - Gregory Point, Lighthouse Beach, Mussel Reef - June 23, 2010

Report Details

Less trash than normally found, although someone made a pile of bottles, etc. behind a log that I will have pick up later. Cormorants continue to kill trees on the southern end of the beach. Many nests. Saw two Osprey circling. No evidence of a nest seen. Good infill of sand. Very little rock exposed. Landslides and boulder falls. Shells, crab molt, Kelp/algae, wood pieces . Plastic pellets and Styrofoam in driftline. Squid egg cases on beach. Five people on beach. Four were pinicing and one was walking. Two dogs.

Notable Wildlife

very little. some gulls, gold finches

Stranded Marine Mammals

Did see baby Harbor Seal about 3 weeks ago way up in the grass. People were taking pictures. After I spoke with them they moved away and the seal went into the water.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Much crab molt. Saw many opaque jelly-like "fingers" with white spots. They varied in size somewhat, but most were about 7cm long and 1 cm wide. Told by others on the beach they are Squid egg casings.

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Styrofoam, Wood pieces.
