Extremely low tide offered opportunity to look at rarely exposed areas. Found a vivid royal purple sea star. Overheard one tidepooler telling another she saw two dead sunfish. Many animal casings(crab) and kelp/algae in driftline. One dead unidentifiable bird. Sea lions trolling waters at mouth of cove. Moderate human impact (15)- 14 tidepooling and one fishing.

Temperature: 65 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: -2.4 feet.

Notable Wildlife
Sea Lions were trolling the waters at the mouth of the cove. I've never noticed them there before today.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 1. Couldn't identify, was medium/small with dark grey wings. That was all that was left.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Saw a lot of crab shells. Not sure if due to molt. Seemed like there were guts inside...

A minus tide brought many visitors to South Cove, one group being led by Larry, a Oregon Shores board member.

Two separate study groups were present, one measuring Gumboot Chitons and the surrounding algae and one studying sea urchins, ones living in pits versus ones not. I saw a couple families bringing their small children to South Cove, and a flock of pelicans.

There was a beach hazard statement issued and I wanted to see what impact that would have as we were experiencing the first fine weather after so many weeks of cold rain. I was charmed by a family of six playing on the beach, the children even playing in the water.
