Report Details

The weather had very light cloud cover, but I logged it as Sunny. The kelp in the wrack line looked old to me, but it was very crusted with salt, which may have fooled me. I found lots and lots of sea stars. One individual caused me concern and I am going to submit a report to MARINe. It is very gratifying to find so many sea stars.

I didn't know if this was enough clouds to say it was cloudy out
Because the center star is broken, I am not sure how healthy this individual is. It appeared solid, but I will send to MARINe
A look back toward the ocean from the same vantage point of previous photo. (I read pix of the landward side of the beach were wanted)
Same vantage point, looking North
Gumboot Chiton hanging out
View of Southern cliffs from Northern border, with sunset rocks in the foreground
This is what happens

Two separate study groups were present, one measuring Gumboot Chitons and the surrounding algae and one studying sea urchins, ones living in pits versus ones not. I saw a couple families bringing their small children to South Cove, and a flock of pelicans.

March 16, 2024

There was a beach hazard statement issued and I wanted to see what impact that would have as we were experiencing the first fine weather after so many weeks of cold rain. I was charmed by a family of six playing on the beach, the children even playing in the water.
