A lovely day during a minus tide event had many visiting the tidepools. I found my first Sea Cucumber! Also got several views of a lemon dorid. Did a Sea Star survey and did not find any wasted Sea Stars.  A gorgeous day and minus tide exposing beautiful boa kelp and and the summer season seems to have provided a nice increase in the kelp plant life.

The beautiful South Cove on a Sunny Sunday morning
Wondered what made these tracks, we thought it might be crabs
I took a picture of this unusual looking limpet only to find several smaller limpets attached after I cropped it.
So many pretty algae. I love the coralline algae.
My first Sea Cucumber I've found at South Cove
It was very active. I estimate at least 6 inches long.
Deceased Blood Star, Henrica
I thought this might be a sea anemone, but none of the others looked this way. I'm not sure what it is
Someone put this Sea Lemon down with this Gumboot Chiton
The Sea Lemon shortly unfurled it's gills

Two separate study groups were present, one measuring Gumboot Chitons and the surrounding algae and one studying sea urchins, ones living in pits versus ones not. I saw a couple families bringing their small children to South Cove, and a flock of pelicans.

March 16, 2024

There was a beach hazard statement issued and I wanted to see what impact that would have as we were experiencing the first fine weather after so many weeks of cold rain. I was charmed by a family of six playing on the beach, the children even playing in the water.
