Everything was quiet and reasonably undisturbed. Kelp, shells, rocks, wood and land- and ocean-based debris in the driftline. Common Loons and dabbling ducks in the bay. Major cracks and landslides in the bluff resulting in tree fall and retreat in the bluff. Five people tidepooling. The two areas of concern for this site are litter and erosion. It was a beautiful winter day!

Temperature: 48 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NE. Tide Level: 0.1 feet.

Number of people: 5. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 5. Photography: 3. Tidepooling: 5. A great deal of litter, debris. Next time I'll bring gloves and a bag to remove what I find.

2 Western gulls, 1 in flight, other on a rock, 2 Common Loons in surf, 4 dabbling ducks (not able to ID)

Natural Changes
Major cracks appearing in bluffs, Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Evidence of wave overtopping, Visible retreat of solid bluff, Landslides/major boulder falls.

A minus tide brought many visitors to South Cove, one group being led by Larry, a Oregon Shores board member.

Two separate study groups were present, one measuring Gumboot Chitons and the surrounding algae and one studying sea urchins, ones living in pits versus ones not. I saw a couple families bringing their small children to South Cove, and a flock of pelicans.

There was a beach hazard statement issued and I wanted to see what impact that would have as we were experiencing the first fine weather after so many weeks of cold rain. I was charmed by a family of six playing on the beach, the children even playing in the water.
