One of the first nice weekend days of the season, and the most humans visiting the mile that I personally have ever seen.
Report Details
One of the first nice weekend days of the season, and the most humans visiting the mile that I personally have ever seen.
Conditions
Temperature: 50 F. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 2.5 feet.
Human Activities
I did a quick dispatch because I have never seen so many people visiting my mile. While on a trip with someone to see the Cape (who didn't want to do the walk DOWN into the cove, knowing it meant a walk back UP) there was only one not really a parking spot left at the top. I counted either 16 or 19 cars and 27 people and two dogs, all doing normal beach-y things. The bottom of the trail is still a boggy mess and I did observe a family making a bit of a short cut, but I can't blame them. Everybody does it.

Two separate study groups were present, one measuring Gumboot Chitons and the surrounding algae and one studying sea urchins, ones living in pits versus ones not. I saw a couple families bringing their small children to South Cove, and a flock of pelicans.

There was a beach hazard statement issued and I wanted to see what impact that would have as we were experiencing the first fine weather after so many weeks of cold rain. I was charmed by a family of six playing on the beach, the children even playing in the water.
