Mile 109 Report
Whisky Run, Fivemile Pt, south end Merchants Beach
February 22, 2010
Moderate use (12 people, 3 dogs) on a warm sunny day.
Report Details
Moderate use (12 people, 3 dogs) on a warm sunny day. Two vehicles on allowed beach. There's been even more than the typical winter removal of sand, right up to foot of foredune/cliff; very flat beach, a few swathes of agates and colorful gravel. In some spots north of Fivemile Point all the sand has washed away, right down to the bedrock. A few minor slides of the cliff onto the beach. Lots of man-made plastic debris mixed with beachgrass fragments in wrackline south of Fivemile Point, but very clean beach north. Two engine blocks and a rear axle on the beach. Surf Scoters, Harlequin Ducks, Surfbirds, Canada Geese, Sanderlings, Ruddy Turnstones in winter garb and the obligate gulls. A dead Lamprey was on the beach.
