This season's first taste of winter-like storms has left huge tangles of bull kelp strewn along the southern half-mile from the Coquille River, as well as logs tossed into the beach grass in front of the houses along Madison--indicating wave overtopping there.

This season's first taste of winter-like storms has left huge tangles of bull kelp strewn along the southern half-mile from the Coquille River, as well as logs tossed into the beach grass in front of the houses along Madison--indicating wave overtopping there. A dead California sea lion remains in the storm line (already reported). Gulls, cormorants, pelicans and crows were all active. Sea-borne litter filled a shopping bag. Also in the driftline were crab molt, stones and shell fragments. One photographer was wading before daylight. On the return walk were 3 people and two dogs.
