Report Details
No one else was out at 5:30 on an overcast, slightly windy morning heading south from the South Jetty. The tide was 1.6 feet and the temperature 50. Wildlife was not particularly evident--just a few gulls and crows. The driftline consisted of small rocks, shell fragments, Velella velella (both blue and bleached white), mussels, a few Dungeness crab shells, both red and bull kelps. Logs remain in spots along the vegetated foredune, which shows signs of wave overtopping. For unknown reasons, people are building log structures. I counted 3 intact and 2 collapsed. The summer cycle of northerly winds and calmer tides has started. Even at high tide, there is abundant beach.
