Report Details
For the first time in weeks, the fierce northerly winds were absent for this jaunt on Mile 102 north of the Coquille River. But they have resulted in sculptural mounds of sand, some even covering the driftwood piles so you can walk over them. No one else was out at 5:30 on this clear, cool morning. I collected a grocery bag full of packing Styrofoam, a Styrofoam float, hard plastic and plastic bags. Not much really, the rest probably having blown to California... Stones and shell fragments occupied the high-tide line. Wildlife was scarce: a few gulls near the water, sandpiper-size birds in the high zone and swallows zipping along the foredune.
