Mile 102 Report
Coquille River, South Jetty, Lighthouse
January 19, 2014
Heading north of the Coquille River at 7 a.
Report Details
Heading north of the Coquille River at 7 a.m. on a chilly morning, I expected to find styrofoam chunks like those on the southern stretch of this mile the last two mornings. There were none, though sheets of plastic and water bottles were in the high driftline. Storm tides have brought in more logs but haven't reached the dune yet. Shell fragments, feathers and bull kelp marked the high line. Sharing the beach was a flock of gulls on the sand near the jetty. No other people out, although a truck was in the parking lot and a couple of bird watchers drove in while I was leaving. A large driftwood teepee has been erected near the closed parking lot.
